HM King Constantine comments on the recent developments in Greek politics

Whilst attending the International Sailing Federation Annual Conference in Puerto Rico, HM King Constantine, was asked by journalists to comment on the latest postponement of the negotiations between the Greek party leaders.

King Constantine replied: 'They must stop making a mockery of the Greek People and of the Democratic institutions'.

NB: The party leaders have been trying, for the past few days, to form an interim government, which will lead Greece to elections and continue the discussions on European level.

However, now is not the time for Greece and her people to succumb to rage, valid as it may be. Now, is the time to stand up for our faith in Democracy. It is time to remember that we have prevailed in hardship, drawing on the unfailing force that we amass in unity.

For Greece to achieve the first, painful steps out of recession, the nation needs to overcome the political and social crisis by separating it from the economic crisis. As with any breakthrough, this will require both strength and patience.
